Happy Friyay Families,

Students have been busy preparing for our Room 6 and 9 Zoo School sharing assembly that will take place on Tuesday afternoon. We will share the assembly with families Tuesday on Google Classroom.

Mrs. Morden and Ms. Bouchard introduced a sculpturing task by sharing an Example and non Example of a beaver sculpture. Students co created success criteria, which they referred to while creating their own Animal Sculpture.

Success criteria:

  • I can use clay modeling techniques to create an real to life animal representation
  • I can add details, patterns or textures to the surface

Real to life: colour, shape, physical features, texture

Clay modeling techniques: rolling, pinching, adding, pressing, making coils

Example & Non Example:

This week we explored a new math warm up routine called "Magic Squares". Students were to use the known numbers to find the unknown numbers where the sum of each row, column and diagonal are the same.
Here is an example of our math talk, after all students attempted the magic squares puzzle independently we came together to share our mathematical thinking and strategies used. This is documentation of students sharing their problem solving strategies.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Morden

Happy FriYAY families,

We worked on publishing our Penguin Four Room Poetry this week. Students colour coded each room.  image- blue, facts- green, sounds- pink, repeating words- orange

This week in math, we began looking at the relationship between addition and subtraction. Students practiced showing how these two operations are related by working with fact family triangles.

We finished our week with a new Esti- mystery. As a class we wrote the following learning intentions that are connected this math exercise:  I can make an estimate (guess) that is based on clues. I can justify (give a reason) my thinking.

We began a new art piece, with inspiration by the Indigenous artist Aaron Paquette. Grade 4 and 5 students in Room 13 also worked on this art project, and were able to help support Room 6 in identifying the features of Paquette's artwork, providing steps in how to complete the work, as well as providing feedback on our drafts.

The last day to bring in move-ember minutes is Monday!

Have a wonderful weekend!
