Hello Room 5 families,

This week we started working on mapping skills. After reading the mentor text "Mapping Penny's World" students generated a list of the features of a map. We now know that a map is a flat picture or drawing that shows what places look like from above. The features of a map include: a title, symbols, labels, a key, and a compass rose. To add extra detail to your map, you may choose on item to "zoom in" on. On Tuesday we will work on creating a map of the classroom.

Students were asked to work on creating a map of their bedroom, or another space in their house and bring back their work to share with others next week!

As artists, students worked on using zentangle doodles to create detail on their pumpkins.

Thank you to all families who brought in plants for our classroom. Students have enjoyed observing, sketching and labeling the various plants.

We worked together to co create a concept map around the central idea of "Habitats". As a class we will add to the concept map as we learn about different habitats in our world. After visiting Ralph Klein Park, we now know a lot about wetlands. Ask your child something that they can do to protect the wetlands habitat, as building empathy and acting as stewards for the land is an important aspect of our learning.

Have a wonderful long weekend!

Mrs. Morden
