Happy FriYAY families,

A productive week of learning for room 6 students. Students were introduced to some new language and math lessons that will become part of our daily soft entry routine. Firstly, word work- each week students will explore a different word family/spelling pattern. They will work together to generate a variety of words that follow that same pattern, we will organize these words into mild, medium and spicy lists. Throughout the week, students will choose a word work activity from our tic-tac-toe sheet to practice these words. On Friday, they will test one another & this test will be sent home. This is a great opportunity for students to practice words at their readiness level, with the freedom of choice while exploring a variety of materials found in our classroom. Secondly, we have began working on daily math warm ups to strengthen our basic math facts, use of strategy, and ability to show our mathematical thinking. Students also have a choice of working on a mild, medium or spicy problem based on self reflection and readiness. 

Through the use of natural artifacts from the City of Calgary, students have been working towards building scientific observational skills as they build on their understanding of Wildlife and Wild Places. Our next steps are to write descriptive paragraphs in order to teach new information to others.
